Doctor Appointments

This week Finley had three appointments - pediatrician, eye doctor and audiologist. Busy girl! At her pedi appointment, which was on her due date (Sept. 24th), she weighed 6 lbs 11 oz. Her weight and head circumference put her at the 25th percentile for her adjusted age, which is great since in utero she always measured at the less then 3rd percentile. She is our growing girl!

Her eye doctor appointment went great. Her retinal development looks normal for her age and he doesn't want to see us for another year.

We were the most concerned with her audiology appointment because she had failed one of her hearing tests in the hospital. Luckily further testing showed that she has borderline normal hearing in both ears, which is more than adequate for the acquisition of speech and language. The doctor believes her slight hearing deficit is probably due to some fluid behind the ear drums. From my limited understanding, at birth the eustacian tubes are oriented almost horizontally in the ear and as one grows and develops the orientation moves to a more vertical position which allows fluid to drain more easily. So if it is some fluid build-up, it should resolve itself in another month or two. Good news!
