Yet Another Update on Little Finley

Andrew and I went back to the perinatologist this morning for our biophysical profile and ultrasound. Finley was quite the wiggle worm as usual, which is a great sign. She's gained 10 oz in the past two weeks and currently weighs in at a whopping 2 lb 3 oz. Also the amount of amniotic fluid is normal and she shows signs of 'breathing' in utero, so all of those things combined means that she passed her biophysical profile with flying colors. And so we thought all was good...

Then they did the doppler to check for the blood flow from the placenta to the umbilical cord. Apparently there is an absence in her diasystolic flow which means that instead of blood flowing constantly there are little lags between each heart beat. Usually with this symptom there is significant fetal distress - but Finley didn't show any signs of being in distress - so it's rather incongruent but still very troublesome. We're now going to be monitored even more closely and we'll see both the OB and perinatologist weekly. Depending on how things look next week, we may schedule a C-section for later in the week (yikes!), which would only be at 31 weeks gestationally. We'd really been wanting to make it to at least 32 weeks, so I really hope that Finley can hang in there an additional week. Any prayers for her well-being would be greatly appreciated!

On a side note, we got a great picture of Finley giving us the thumb's up - so maybe that's her way of letting us know she's hanging in there!
